What happens to an object when it is removed from its original context? Does its identity and function alter because of cultural and temporal displacement? This painting comes from the series, “Accounting for Lost Objects” (2002 - 2004), which offers a fictional biography of an abacus’ reincarnation in the West. The abacus is intact in the beginning but disintegrates into individual unique beads.
